Invasive Pneumococcal Disease
Infection with pneumococcal bacteria causes a range of diseases including meningitis, pneumonia and middle ear infection. Infections are more common in winter and spring. Small children, and the elderly are most at risk. Infection is treated with antibiotics. Immunisation can prevent infection.

Hodgkins Disease
Hodgkins Disease occurs most commonly in young adults. It is characterised by a swelling of lymph glands all over the body.
Generally the disease starts with a single swelling of a gland on one side of the neck. When first noticed several glands might be involved. The swelling are of various sizes, are not tender and are of a firm rubbery consistency. They may adhere to deeper tissues but the skin remains freely movable above the swelling.
